I don’t play jazz at all, and I don’t really listen to much. But I could listen to Clifford Brown all day long every day. What a shame he died so young.

I hadn’t realized just how young Brown was when he passed. To have achieved so much in just 25 years is mind boggling.

My Grandpa was a jazz drummer, among many other things. Morse code dah’s and dit’s and jazz music would pour out of the ham shack into the rest of the house. He was also an activist, and didn’t gloss over the importance jazz had in the civil rights movement with me.

That’s the thing—he was that good at 25. Imagine what he might have been doing at 50. Unless he got all messed up on heroin like Miles Davis.
